The Flame Nebula
NGC 2024

Constellation:
Orion
Click on the Thumbnail Images below for a larger image
The Flame Nebula is located near the star Alnitak.  Alnitak is the first star on the left in Orion's Belt.  The ring around the star Alnitak is an artifact from the telescope.

The Horsehead Nebula is located beow the star Alnitak.  Alnitak is the first star on the left in Orion's Belt.  Soon I will post a widefield picture from the refractor telescope with both the Horsehead and the Flame nebual in the same picture.
This object requires much more exposure time (data) than I was able to give it.  Use your imagination and you can make out part of a bubble.  The Bubble is formed by a dying star that exploded.  The"bubble" is the expanding ring of gases jestisoned by the exploding star.
My first image with the CCD camera the first time out.  I was happy to get something.  Use your imagination and you can see an Eagle holding a fish in its claws.  This is an area of great star formation.  The Hubble telescope has the best image of this object.
Satellite Crossing...  I was trying to get more
exposure time for the Bubble Nebula.  Only after I downloaded the Image did I notice that a satellite passed through the image. Click on image to see the track.

I like to call this nebula the "apple core" nebula.  Greyscale does not do it justice.
